If your idea has been covered before, that does not always mean it is off the table. A fresh update, stronger local angle, new interview, seasonal hook, or more useful guide format may still work.
How to Submit an Article Idea

- A short working title
- A brief summary of the article idea
- Why the topic is relevant to Today Magazine readers
- Any people, places, or sources you plan to include
- Links to two or three writing samples, if available
- Whether photos are available or needed
Please do not send a full article unless we have requested it. A clear pitch is usually the best first step.
What Makes a Strong Pitch?
A strong pitch is specific. Instead of sending a broad idea like “a story about restaurants,” send a focused angle such as “five Niagara bakeries keeping old-fashioned desserts alive” or “how local chefs are using seasonal Ontario ingredients this summer.”
A good pitch should answer three simple questions:
- What is the story?
- Why would readers care?
- Why does it fit Today Magazine?
We are especially interested in stories with a clear Niagara connection, practical reader value, and a warm magazine-style voice.
What We Usually Do Not Accept
To keep the site useful and trustworthy, we generally do not accept:
- Copied, rewritten, or AI-spun content from another website
- Generic guest posts with no local connection
- Overly promotional business articles written like advertisements
- Thin SEO content created only for backlinks
- Press releases submitted as finished articles
- Unverified health, legal, financial, or safety claims
- Content that attacks, misleads, plagiarizes, or uses fake sources
Business owners and organizations are welcome to suggest story ideas, but editorial approval is not guaranteed. If a topic is mainly promotional, advertising or sponsored content may be a better fit.
Photos and Media
Photos can help bring a story to life, especially for food, travel, arts, events, history, and local profiles. If you have original images, please mention that in your pitch.
Only submit images you own or have permission to use. Do not send photos copied from social media, Google Images, another publication, or a third-party website unless you can clearly confirm usage rights.
Editing and Publication
All accepted submissions may be edited for clarity, length, grammar, tone, accuracy, formatting, and Today Magazine style. Headlines, introductions, section titles, links, images, and publication dates may also be adjusted by the editorial team.
Submitting a pitch does not guarantee publication. We review ideas based on reader value, topic fit, timing, originality, and editorial needs.

We do our best to review submissions in a timely way. Because we may receive more pitches than we can publish, we may not be able to respond to every submission.
